Psychedelic Therapy

The future of mental healthcare is changing….

Psychedelic Therapy is on the horizon. In recent years MAPS has made progress in studying the positive impacts of MDMA on PTSD. Johns Hopkins University has conducted studies on the effects of psylocibin for clinical depression. Others have written about the ceremonial uses of ayahuasca and ibogaine having a benefit for those who have struggled with substance abuse.

It May Not Be Legal Now, but A Change Is Coming...

Right now, KAP is our best avenue for legally integrating psychedelic experiences into the therapeutic process. Psilocybin, MDMA, LSD, & DMT are not currently legal. Because of this, Ryan Hicks Counseling & Psychotherapy does not encourage or condone the use of any currently illegal substances. With the passing of Proposition 122 in Colorado, the state is currently in the process of establishing guidelines for the therapeutic use of psilocybin as well as training guidelines for professionals. At the federal level, MDMA appears to be on track to be rescheduled by the FDA. As these changes continue, I will be monitoring changes to legislature, and I will be pursuing training in the therapeutic use of these medicines as guidelines for clinicians. I am excited for a time when psychedelic therapy becomes more readily available. Until then, I can offer my clients Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy in individual, couples or group therapy for those who wish to bring psychedelic healing to their therapy process.
