Frequently Asked Questions

  • That is a great question! Our emotions are complicated. There is a physical feeling that comes with many emotions, we have thoughts about our emotions, we make meaning out of them. It is easy for us to be attuned to part of our emotions, but for depression or anxiety to block us from the rest. While I might say to myself when I’m depressed “I’m unloveable”, if I am able to listen to my sadness it might tell me “I feel lonely.” The message of depression leaves us stuck. The emotion of sadness tells me what I am needing. And if I am able to listen to that need I can work on providing my own needs.

  • Relationship/Couples therapy can be a powerful way to create connection and intimacy. While this is true, research tells us that couples therapy is generally not effective when substance abuse or addiction issues are at play. Physical, sexual, or emotional abuse are all also contraindications for couples therapy. In all these instances I recommend that people seek individual therapy to address these things prior to coming into Relationship therapy. If you are looking for a referral for one of these reasons feel free to contact me.

  • KAP can definitely be a financial commitment (see question above). Beyond that, I do always want people considering this treatment to keep in mind that it is a time commitment as well. Medicine and integration sessions occur in the same week, meaning that there are two sessions each week. This is to fully take advantage of changes in the brain which allow for the forming of new neuropathways. This makes it easier to make the changes that you are wanting to make in your day-to-day life. That being said, KAP does not have the same indefinitely ongoing nature that regular talk therapy can take.
